Sleeping Rooms

  • Rack Rates:
The full retail price of the room before discounts are applied. Generally the published rate that the public pays. Guaranteed Late Arrival: To hold your reservation, no matter how late you arrive, you'll have to pay for your first night in advance. That money won't be refunded, even if you don't arrive until the next day. However, without this guarantee, most hotels will not hold your room past 6pm.
  • Standard Rooms:
At some resorts, all guest rooms are quite special, at others, they are ordinary at best. Check a recent brochure or visit the hotel on line and see examples of their standard room.
  • Suites:
Suites can be quite elaborate, perhaps with an in-room Jacuzzi and large sitting room, while junior suites usually have a small sitting area, not a separate room.
  • Double, queen or king- sized beds:
In the USA and Caribbean, these terms are understood. If you're reserving overseas, ask for a matrimonial bed, as "double beds" can be understood as two single beds.
  • Upgrades:
Often frequent customers are given free upgrades, which means being moved to a higher category of room than you paid for. For example, you may be upgraded from an ocean view room to an oceanfront room or junior suite.
