Tipping Guidelines

Experienced travelers have honed their tipping skills and know that a good tip can make the difference between poor and stellar service. However, the general rule of thumb is that the tip should be discretionary, left up to you, based on the service (and attitude) received. Below is a general tipping guideline to assist you.
Restaurant servers, hotel room service, taxi drivers and train dining cars 15% of bill
Concierge:$5-$10 for special services/arrangements
Doorman $1 for hailing your taxi
Valet parking $1-$2 when you leave or pick up your car
Hotel housekeeping $1-$2 per day
Hotel pool attendant $1 for furnishing you with a towel;
$2 for towel and assisting you in finding a lounge spot.
Train sleeping car attendant $1 per night per person
Train redcap $1.00 per bag
Hotel bell captain $1.00 per bag
Tour Guides/Drivers Unless tip is included,
$5-10 per person for an all day tour;
$25-50 per person for full week tour.
Limousine chauffeur Tip is already included in bill.
However, if you have an exceptional driver who went out of his/her way, we recommend anything from $10-100, depending on the length of your trip, what he/she did, etc.

Tipping on cruises

Porters at loading $1.00 per bag
Cabin Stewards & Waiters $3.00 per passenger per day
Maitre D $2-$10/passenger for the entire cruise,
depending on how helpful they have been

As always, use your best judgment. Tipping should be granted based on the degree of a job well done, how above and beyond the individual went etc.
